Laggan Locks Loop
This is a short walk from the hostel, which follows the canal  to the Laggan Locks, and then heads accross the A82 and follows a forestry track back to the hostel. The walk will take about an hour, and is suitable for all abilities, being on level ground for most of the way.
Map.jpg - 38kOn leaving the hostel we head north on the A82 for 200 metres, before turning off it to the left onto a walking track which runs alongside the canal to the Laggan Locks. The walk alongside the canal will take about 20 minutes, and is in pleasant wooded country for the most part. About 400 metres from the Locks the trees end and the Locks will become visible, as will the boats moored alongside the Canal. On a fine day it's an enjoyable pastime just to watch the boats as they pass through the locks, or you can read the memorial to the "Battle of the Shirts", an ancient clan battle. (So named because the day of the battle was so hot the clansmen were forced to take off their kilts and fight in their shirts).
On the left hand side of the locks is a road that heads back to the A82 - follow this road back to the highway and then turn right, and cross the A82. Almost immediately on the left you'll see a small clearing and a track heading up the hill. Take this track, and walk up away from the road for less than 100 metres - unfortunately this short part of the track is somewhat overgrown, but make your way through the undergrowth to the forestry track.Hostel from forest track 14k Turn left here, and head back in the direction of the hostel along the track - you'll have to walk for about 20 minutes and the hostel will come into view on the left across the paddock. You need to walk a little further, and you'll come to a track off to the left. Walk along this and you'll meet back up with the A82, where you can turn left and head the 100 metres back to the hostel.
